At last I hear you say! And I I’m inclined to agree.
I have finally got round to using a modelling session for some modelling and not just building shelves! I’m half way through a program of fitting the Hull based fleet of 156 DMUs with DCC. Not only are they going DCC but because they are Dapol creations they are getting light bars too.
In N Gauge you are always going to come up against things that are fiddly, but for me these are unnecessarily hard. Whoever at Dapol decided to put the lightbar socket where it is must be mad, or evil!
As anyone who has tried fitting a lightbar to a 156 will know, it is tight if you have sausage fingers. And the angle it is at means it is very hard to control with a pair of tweezers or similar. At least my modelling is done out in the garage now so I am free to use naughty words as I see appropriate.
Tomorrow will be more of the same. I’m halfway through the What The Hull based fleet, however I’m saving the toughest till last.
I discovered this evening that the Settle & Carlisle Graphic Edition I purchased off eBay last year is missing a bit. Now don’t get me wrong, it runs nicely, so I’ve not been sold a dud. But the lightbar socket is missing so this one will require some delicate treatment with the soldering iron.
Hopefully over the coming weeks it will start to warm up, then I get on with the baseboards. It seems very strange to be modelling and not have a layout to work on. I think the last time I was in this situation was at least 10 years ago. As such the warmer weather can’t come soon enough – and for many reasons!
